Listen, I don’t mean to always be dumping all over Danny Ainge. I also don’t think it’s outrageous to say that he has not lived up to his reputation for the most part this offseason. That is, until he signed Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter. Good, solid signing that will drastically improve this squad. Love it.
What I don’t love are Ainge’s comments about the moves.
Excuse me? THIS was your plan A?
Why did he have the need to try to defend or rationalize these moves? We know this was not your first plan. And that’s fine!
Don’t get me wrong. I love it. I was extremely harsh on Trader Danny before and after the draft, but he came through. Kemba and Kanter are tremendous additions to this team. But you’re trying to tell me this was always plan A? Danny…YOU DON’T EVEN BELIEVE THAT! His face says it all!
That’s the face of a man who knows he showed his hand early, cashed in all his leprechaun gold coins, and ended up with Plan….D? Either that or he just shit himself, but I’m going with the former, not the latter.
Ya gotta think plan A was getting Anthony Davis. Actually, you don’t even have to ‘think’ because that’s all anyone has talked about for the past 2 years. This was the offseason where the Celtics would land AD and instantly become a title contender. That plan did not materialize though, as Davis went to join LAbron and star in Space Jam 2.
Plan B? Probably to persuade Irving to stay, sign Horford, and make a few more minor additions (by subtraction when it comes to Rozier) and run it back with almost the same crew but with more cohesiveness.
If THAT failed, Plan C most likely would’ve been to still sign Kemba, but keep Horford instead of going out and getting Kanter.
And now we get to Danny’s “Plan A”. Sign Kemba Walker and Enis Kanter.
Again, I am not bashing the moves whatsoever. I am pleasantly surprised with what Ainge pulled off. Kemba is a great player who adds a lot more leadership than our former PG did. His talents are not quite at Kyrie level, but what he lacks in skill, he makes up for in not being an asshole.
And Kanter is a great offensive big who will make an immediate impact. Sure, his defense leaves a bit to be desired, but I have faith in Brad Stevens that he’ll get the most out of him.
Oh, and this GIF brings me much joy.
But my point here is, why did Danny even need to say this? Everyone knows you fumbled this offseason a bit. Whatever gran plan you supposedly had, this was not it. And guess what? That’s okay!
Sometimes things don’t work out how you want them to. So what do you do? You make the best of it. And Ainge and the Celtics front office made the best of it! But in classic Trader Danny fashion, he had to try to make it seem like he was still the smartest guy in the room and that this was his plan all along.
You finally have the fanbase back liking this team, please don’t mess it up with these dumb comments. Cause let me tell ya, it’s getting old.
Oh, and lemme just put this out there too:
