“Hey gang what do you wanna do this weekend?”
“Oh, I don’t know, I’m kinda bored with all this Earth shit…wanna go chill on the ISS for a long weekend?”
This is a conversation that’s now one step closer to happening guys! NASA is going to start letting civilians like you and I take a long trip to the International Space Station!
Nasa is to allow tourists to visit the International Space Station from 2020, priced at $35,000 (£27,500) per night.
The US space agency said it would open the orbiting station to tourism and other business ventures.
There will be up to two short private astronaut missions per year, said Robyn Gatens, the deputy director of the ISS.
Nasa said that private astronauts would be permitted to travel to the ISS for up to 30 days, travelling on US spacecraft.
It seems too crazy to be true, but this BBC article explains everything. And I for one am pumped.
Obviously, I will never be able to save up the $35,000 to even be in the conversation for this to happen. But if for some reason I did, that’s not the only fee ya gotta pay.
According to this article, NASA has teamed up with Boeing and the one and only Elon Musk and his SpaceX program as a means of transportation to get to the ISS. Taking the Boeing Starliner or Musks’ Dragon capsule (clearly the superior name) would cost you right around 60 million bucks.
Yeaaaahhhh, it’s gonna be a no from me dawg, sorry. I’m not sure if I’ll ever even see that amount of money in my lifetime, nevermind saving it up to go tour the galaxy. Oh well, if anyone wants to lend me the money though, I’d be very thankful and when I become Ruler of the Stars, I’ll be sure to remember what you did for me!
Oh, and by the way, did you know that the U.S. doesn’t own the International Space Station? That’s crazy to me. For some reason I thought we owned that shit. Had the title to it and everything. I guess there’s a bunch of other countries involved too. I just assumed that over time those countries dropped off leaving us the owners of Space.
So much for keeping our secrets up high amirite?
