Marvel Monday: Top10 Marvel Movies

Plans change. I had the idea to do a little blog every few days specifically about my favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. But to be honest, that’s kinda tough to do for a couple reasons.

For starters, like I mentioned in my blog before (in case you didn’t read it here it is) my job as a car salesman isn’t really giving me much time to write blogs as I’d want to. No, I’m not using this as an excuse, as I still regularly get posts up, but in order to properly write a about these movies, I’d have to rewatch all them. With each of these films being an average of 2 hours or so, and with working at least 9 hours a day while getting up at 4:30 in the morning to go to the gym (yeah I workout) it’s a little tough. Secondly, I’m not sure everyone else has the same fandom for these movies as I do so instead of getting a bunch of clicks for one movie that everyone likes and not so many for one that I may like but isn’t a fan favorite, I figured I’d just put ’em all in one concise blog. So here we go.

10. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Not gonna go in depth here. Already wrote a blog on this. Take a look!

9. Guardians of the Galaxy

Everyone loved this one so much when it came out. The humor was on point almost the entire movie and it spawned one of the most lovable characters in the entire MCU: Groot. Also, almost more than any other film in Marvels gallery, this portrayed what the real meaning of family is. A group of people who don’t need to be related by blood, but share an almost unbreakable bond. And that’s what Starlord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot and Drax share. It was cool to see the Power Stone show up as well and that scene at the end when they all joined hands in holding the stone was awesome.

Best Scene: When Groot protects everyone and says “WE are Groot”. Waterwork city.

8. Iron Man

The start of the ENTIRE Marvel Cinematic Universe. I know I’ve said this before, but THIS is the most important movie Marvel Studios has ever put out. Do you know how much was riding on this? The plans that would’ve been scrapped if this movie didn’t succeed? Without this there would be no Captain America, no Black Panther, no Captain Marvel and Spider-Man probably never would’ve came back home from Sony. None of anything that happens after this would’ve happened. The studio took a huge risk with Robert Downey Jr as well and, as they normally do, absolutely positively nailed it. There is not another actor who portrays a character as good as Downey does with Tony Stark. “I am Iron Man”…please don’t go Tony!

Best Scene: The very end where Tony Stark goes home only to see Nick Fury standing there. “Mr. Stark you’ve become part of a bigger universe…you just don’t know it yet.”

7. Black Panther

I feel like a lot of people will have this movie much higher. It was great, don’t get me wrong. But I feel like it’s kinda a tiny bit overrated. Don’t misquote me here, things can be really good while still being overrated (i.e. Lebron James). This is another movie that is visually stunning. Wakanda is absolutely beautiful. Killmonger is also one of the most complete villains in MCU history. You really understand why he’s doing what he’s doing, but you still don’t want him to succeed. The racial and political undertones really add to the plot as well which is tough to do without completely overshadowing the movie. T’Challa also has that cool accent which I could listen to all day.

Best Scene: When T’Challa comes back to try to take down Killmonger and ends up using the full powers of his new suit. Taking down a freaking Rhino. And doing a really cool slow motion spear throw to take out a plane.

6. Ragnarok

This was the movie that reinvigorated Thor. His solo movies up to this point have been sub par but this, this was great. It was hilarious all the way through. The star for me was Korg. He has some of the best one liners in the whole movie. Seeing Hulk and Thor fight is always a welcome sight as well. The little cameo from Dr. Strange was awesome too. The more I think about this movie the more I wonder if I should move it up the list. I literally can’t say enough good things about this film. Loki, Hela. The entire opening sequence where Thor is swinging around in the chains while talking to Surtur. I really hope Thor doesn’t die in Endgame..

Best Scene: Hands down when Thor goes super-Thor and brings the biggest lightning bolt ever down on Hela and get thunder eyes at the end of the movie.

5. Civil War

It pains me to have this movie not in my top 3 anymore, but it’s tough sledding to get up in the top of this list, so here’s where it lands. I love this movie. Everything worked for me. Black Panther and Spideys introduction were done flawlessly and both those characters almost stole the movie. With so much packed into one movie, I can understand why people find this to be kinda bloated. But I don’t think so at all. The emotional end where Tony Stark realizes that Bucky was the one who killed his parents AND Steve knew about it the whole time sent shivers down my spine. “He’s my friend”….”So was I”. My god that line gave me goosebumps. Growing up watching these characters and now seeing them fight each other absolutely sucked. I was so conflicted. This may actually be the most crucial movie in the MCU since it split the entire Avengers apart. Which gave the opening for Thanos to come in and teabag the entire world in one fell swoop. This was just a teaser for what was to come in Infinity War.

Best Scene: I mean, its the Airport Fight. Giant Man. Spidey holding his own against Cap. Black Panther telling Hawkeye he doesn’t care who he is. So great.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Full disclosure, I am extremely bias when it comes to the Web Slinger. He’s my favorite superhero of all time and he’s also Stan Lees. Tom Holland is perfect as a young Peter Parker. Marvel finally got their hands on Spider-Man and they nailed it. This is another movie where the villain, The Vulture, is really good and his backstory actually makes sense! There’s something about seeing Spidey swing from building to building that just makes me happy. They also do a GREAT job with having Iron Man in this movie but not taking anything away from Spider-Man whatsoever. All while building this incredible relationship between the two of them. I can’t wait to see what Marvel has in store for the wall crawler in the years to come….**cough cough**Sinister Six**cough cough**

Best Scene: I had a different scene here but I had to change it last minute. When Iron Man saves the day when Spider-Man tries to hold the cruise ship together and Peter gets all pissy and says “If you even cared you’d actually be here right now..” And guess who comes popping out of the Iron Man suit? Tony! He was there. Then he says the ominous line “..and if you died?..I feel like that’s on me…” Ugh.

3. The Avengers

This movie is too big and special and groundbreaking to not be in the Top 3. Unprecedented even! You bring all these superheros together and it fucking worked! If this movie failed the entire MCU would’ve came crashing down. This is almost the perfect Marvel movie. It has humor, fights, sad moments (RIP Coulson….kinda), world building, AGH! It’s just so good. This was also the first time you see Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and he made me forget every other actor who has played the role before him. The Hulk needs his own movie damnit!

Best Scene: This.

2. Winter Soldier

Up until the Number One movie on this list came out, this was my favorite movie. And it wasn’t even close. You can’t make this movie any better even if you tried. The fight scenes are all perfect. The introduction of Winter Soldier is perfect. The easter eggs to the rest of the MCU are perfect (Stephen Strange). Captain Americas suit is perfect for crying out loud! If you haven’t seen this movie, I recommend you put it on right this second. This is Chris Evans best performance as Captain America. I could write 2,000 words about this movie, but I won’t. Just watch the movie.

Best Scene: The elevator fight scene.

1. Infinity War

Did you think something else was gonna be here? This was the most anticipated movie of all time. And it did more than live up to the almost unreachable hype. Thanos was FINALLY coming and boy did he ever make his presence felt. Literally in the first scene of the movie, he has Thor on his last legs, beat the ever living shit out of the Hulk and killed Heimdall and Loki. I mean if that’s not an entrance I don’t know what is. Thanos literally had his way with basically everyone in this movie. Who thought he was actually going to get all six infinity stones AND actually do the snap!? The battle in Wakanda. Captain America returning. Numerous deaths (both permanent and not). Dream team-ups. The credit scene teasing Captain Marvel. I made it a point for this to be the first movie I watched after the New Year. I literally came home, very drunk, and fell asleep with this on. I love this movie. Spider-Mans death gets me every time. God damnit Thor, GO FOR THE HEAD NEXT TIME!

Best Scene: I was going to put the snap and all the dust deaths here but….let’s be honest, we all know the best scene in this movie. BRING ME THAANOOSSS!!
