There have been many great comebacks over the years. The Boston Red Sox coming back down 3-0 in the ALCS against the Yankees. The Cavs (screw Lebron) in the 2016 NBA Finals versus the Warriors. The Boston Celtics in the 2008 NBA Finals against the Lakers. Kim Kardashian back in 2007. But none will ever compare to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
51 years of Super Bowls and there has never been a team to come back from a 25 point deficit. There has never been a Super Bowl go into overtime. There has also never been a legend like Tom Brady to strap em up before either. Down 28-3, the New England Patriots, led my Brady, had a comeback for the ages and cemented themselves as the greatest dynasty in NFL history. Oh, and also solidified Tom Brady as the best to ever do it at his position.
This was not an enjoyable Super Bowl to watch if you were at Pats fan though. At least going into the 4th quarter it wasn’t. But then the Pats pulled the ultimate rabbit out of their hat and reminded the world exactly who they were. The best.
From Hightower blowing by Freeman to strip sack Matt Ryan. From Trey Flowers coming up with a HUGE sack to knock the Falcons out of field goal range. From James White coming through with the best game of his career. From Rom Brady coming back from his first half pick-6. This win was a complete team effort from start to finish. Oh, and this happened too..
Yeah, no one on the planet thought Edelman actually caught that before they showed the replay. I remember standing a foot away from the TV at Nicole’s parents house and we were all absolutely silent until we saw he DID ACTUALLY CATCH IT! Hearing Joe Buck go “Awww that’s a catch!” still gives me chills to this day. I think right then and there every Patriots fan knew deep down that this game was ours.
And then we tied it up at the end of the 4th and the rest, as they say, was history. The second the Pats won the coin flip in overtime everyone on the face of the Earth knew what was coming next. A methodical 75-yard drive down the field to the history books. Hogan. Edelman. White. Brady. All the big name players coming up big when it counted.
So on this day I hope all us New Englanders celebrate. Let us all rejoice in the fact that we are the best. As an organization. As a fanbase. As a region. Patriots fans, look up to the football God’s and praise them for allowing you to be born as a New England Patriots fan. There will never be another time like this in your sports life so enjoy it. And the end isn’t even here. With Brady at the helm and Belichick running the show, the only thing that can stop this train is the world exploding. See ya in the Super Bowl next year guys. Happy 3-28 Day!
