The Mouse Finally Puts Down The Fox

I feel like this deal has been going on for years. Which it kinda has if you think about it. The news originally leaked about all this way back in 2017. In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, Disney has acquired all the rights to the film and television properties owned by 21st Century Fox. Now, what does that mean exactly?

Marvel FINALLY has the rights to a bunch of characters that have been deeply missed by everyone who has paid attention to the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past decade. We’re talking some heavy hitters here too. All of the X-Men. The Fantastic Four. The Silver Surfer. And how can anyone forget Deadpool. The potential for these characters within the MCU is massive. Although, this news is very bittersweet for probably the most iconic actor/character tandem to ever grace film. Hugh Jackman has stated multiple times that he’s done playing Wolverine. And while Marvel has already came out and said that they’re eventually going to recast the character, it sucks that we’ll never get to see Jackman’s iconic portrayal interact with any of our other MCU favorites.

When it comes to the Fantastic Four, its a completely different story though. I don’t think there is one person in this world that is not pumped to see Marvel Studios CORRECTLY cast the group. It’s been almost criminal how Marvels First Family has been treated by Fox over the years. Sure, the first movie with Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, and Chris Evans (LOL) wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great either. It was a corny, poorly acted incarnation of 4 of the most important characters in Marvel Comics history. And don’t even get me started on the reboot they did in 2015. My god that was a steaming pile of hot garbage. So to have them all back under the Marvel Studios umbrella is fantastic.

Not to mention that, along with the superheroes, we’re also getting back a few iconic villains.. Dr. Doom, Galactus and Magneto have the potential to carry the Marvel movies for decades to come. We are talking 3 of the most badass, history-rich villains to ever come from Marvel. Once our heroes are done taking down Thanos, I can see a world where Dr. Doom rises to prominence in Latveria, gaining enough power to take over the world. Galactus has the nickname of ‘Eater of Worlds’ so its self explanatory the potential that he has on film. And we all are familiar with Magneto at this point. The future for the bad guys in the MCU looks very bright indeed.

The one that everyone is probably most excited about though is Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds himself seems just as excited as all of us!

Seeing Deadpool interact with Spider-Man is gonna be hilarious to watch. They’ve always had a funny, quirky friendship in the comics. So seeing that happen on the big screen is going to be a sight to see. Or how about Wade Wilson and Steve Rodgers! The button up, no nonsense Captain America dealing with Deadpool, who finds a new, creative way to insert a curse word into every sentence. And you KNOW that Reynolds is going to have a field day with breaking the fourth wall and talking about how his character is FINALLY back with Marvel Studios. And on top of all that, Marvel has already come out and said that any Deadpool movie they make in the future will be rated R!

Now, all this sounds great in theory, but we don’t even know who’s going to make it out of Avengers: Endgame alive, so we kinda have to temper our excitement. These new characters may not even get a chance to share the screen with heroes like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America or Hulk. But there are still plenty of opportunities for other characters who we know will survive though. Regardless, just having these characters back home is awesome.

And please don’t give me any bullshit about how all these people are going to lose their jobs now that both of these companies have merged. I don’t care one bit. People lose their jobs everyday. With the talent that all these people at these studios have, I really don’t think they’ll be out of work for too long anyway. I’m just happy that all these characters that Marvel and Stan Lee had to sell off all those years ago are finally back where they belong. Now all we need is for Sony to keep playing ball, and everything will be back to normal. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
